Documentation is the product
In healthcare freight, arriving on time and in range is not sufficient. You have to be able to prove it, to someone whose job is to reject things that are not proven. That means the temperature record, the chain of custody, and the delivery documentation are all part of what you are buying, not paperwork that happens afterward.
The temperature record
Modern reefer units log continuously. We request the download from the carrier so the record exists before anyone asks for it.
The chain of custody
Sealed trailers with seal numbers recorded at origin and verified at delivery, and signature capture at each transfer.
The delivery documentation
Written on the rate confirmation, not agreed verbally. If your quality agreement requires it every load, we make it a standing requirement.

Hospital and DC receiving
Hospital docks are not warehouse docks. Limited hours, limited space, and often no forklift. Before dispatch we confirm receiving hours and whether they take deliveries at all on the day you want, whether a liftgate is needed, whether the driver can be attended at the dock or the trailer must drop, and who signs. A load that arrives correctly at a closed dock is a failed load.
Chain of custody
For freight where custody must be unbroken: driver-attended service with no unattended stops, sealed trailers with seal numbers recorded at origin and verified at delivery, and signature capture at each transfer. Tell us the requirement up front. Retrofitting chain of custody onto a load already in transit is not possible.
What temperature range do pharmaceuticals ship at?
Most refrigerated pharmaceuticals ship at 2 to 8 C (36 to 46 F). Controlled ambient product ships at 15 to 25 C (59 to 77 F). Some biologics require frozen or deep-frozen. The requirement should be on the rate confirmation with the run mode specified, not agreed verbally.
Can I get temperature documentation for a shipment?
Yes. Modern reefer units log continuously and we request the download from the carrier. If your quality agreement requires it on every load, tell us and we will make it a standing requirement on the rate confirmation.
Can freight be temperature-controlled and hazmat?
Yes. Lab reagents and diagnostic specimens routinely carry both requirements. The carrier pool narrows because the carrier needs reefer equipment and hazmat authority and the driver needs the endorsement, but that is the kind of load we quote.
